Coloring Red Hair on a Unity Girl

Sharing a card I made for the Unity Stamp facebook group. The challenge was to use any Unity Girl image. I chose this one from the current Kit of the Month kit.

I decided to practice red hair again. Overall I'm happy with it. I still can't get the braids shadowed right. It's such a small area to color, and I must be a bit heavy handed with the marker.!! When I posted this to the facebook group, I got positive comments on how they loved the hair, and that makes me happy!! I used Spectrum marker colors CR10, CR11 and DR5.

Her shirt is actually paper pieced with a piece of soft sky card stock that I shaded a bit with ink. I did originally color it in blues, but it didn't look good at all, so I covered it up! I have a six pack of Spectrum markers in blues, but there is such a contrast between the medium and dark, that I just can't get them to blend right.

The little flowers around her I colored with a purple glaze pen, and the sentiment is from the same kit and die cut with an Elizabeth Crafts label. The card base is black with an overlay of printed vellum from SU! and I had to add some twine also!!

Thanks so much for visiting! I have another red head image I'll be sharing once I get it put on a card or something! :)

Unity Stamps

I've signed up to Unity Stamp Company's Kit of the Month club. Every month you get a full 8 1/2"x 11" sheet of exclusive rubber stamp images. This is the second kit I've received, and this month has this sweet bird nest image.

I've colored it with my Spectrum and Letraset markers, and spritzed it lightly with my hand spritzer to give a light splattered look. The leaves are die cut, and I've added some pearls around them.

Having these kits arrive each month is giving me some fresh ideas, and getting me to color more, both of which I've been needing lately!

Thanks so much for visiting!!

Gift Box

Playing along with the color challenge this week at Splitcoast Stampers using Hello Honey, Basic Gray and Lost Lagoon.

I decided to make a gift box that Sam made, her version is here. I love the size and the flat top. The colors also gave me an excuse to use some designer paper that I'm not real fond of, it has all the same colors in it. The sentiment is from a retired Stampin Up! set, and is punched and layered. Here is a closer look at the top:

I made my closer different than the original. I'm not a fan of threading twine or ribbon :) I've used my favorite, mini velcro dots. Available at any fabric store.

Go check the link out and make one of these yourself, they're quite easy! Thanks for visiting!

Sending Hugs

Playing along with the color challenge today at Splitcoast. Bermuda Bay, Elegant Eggplant, Old Olive with dessert option of embossing.

I substituted the eggplant with Perfect Plum. I cased this card from my 'cards to make' pinterest board.

The plum leafy panel is SU!'s retired emboss resist paper, love that stuff! And the bermuda panel was embossed with a Cuttlebug folder. Everything else was kept to the original, except the sentiment, which is from a Simon Says Stamp Flower Friends set.

I also used a paper piercing pack to go around the edges of the larger bermuda panel. Always forget to use that tool, it really does add the extra special touch.

Thanks so much for visiting!

Thought Process of Crafter's Block

This card was made for the current monthly Joy Clair challenge following this color board.

I set out to make a black and white background with a few pops of color following the board above. After stamping the first images in black from the Joy Clair Paisley Bouquet, I decided to stamp some of the solid leaves randomly around. Ok, that looks fine, now to stamp, color, and fussy cut some of the flowers in this set.

After about 30 minutes or so I was done. I put the flowers on the stamped panel and tried to find a pleasing place for them. Nope. So I took a few off, put them back, tried them here, tried them there, nope, nope, nope!!!

After being discouraged of that, I looked at the stamp set to see what else I could do. There is a solid flower image that is larger than the one's I've already used, and decided on that. After thinking for a minute, I just went for it and stamped it right on top of everything else using the light pink and blue.

I am totally happy with the way it looks! Whew, saved that one from the scrap bin. Now onto the sentiment. This stamp set has some lovely scripty sayings, so I was eager to use one of them. I picked a couple out, stamped onto some scrap white, then thought of what punch to use. Yes!!! I have an older paisley punch that would go perfectly!!

Off to the shelf I went reaching for it, GONE!! Oh no!! Not there means that is one that I gave away   :( Why do I do that to myself!! Ahhh, hopefully it's getting used by whoever it went to anyway! So, off to the other punches I went. And again nope, nope, nope. After debating for only a couple minutes, I told myself enough. I'm happy with the way it looks, it doesn't need a sentiment! Besides, I have the whole blank inside for a sentiment!!

So, that's my thoughts while making this card. The first real stamped one I'm happy with in the past couple of weeks. I must keep going on though, discouraged or not. Just hope I don't waste too much paper in the process ;)

Thanks for visiting and reading to the end :)

Hello Friend

.

I'm playing along with a sketch challenge at Splitcoast Stampers today. I really haven't been wanting to do any stamping lately. I go into my room, sit down, and nothing. No desire to try and make anything. But, when I saw the sketch today, I decided to use some papers I've been hoarding from Lawn Fawn  called Into the Woods.

There is a stamp set that matches these papers, but I don't own it, the papers are good enough for me! I fussy cut the deer, bird, and word bubble, and the rest are just patterned papers.

While I was making this, it reminded me of way back when I only had sentiment stamps. Sometimes it's good to go back to the simpler ways. Friends tell me that I have a lot of stuff(supplies!), maybe I'm getting too overwhelmed with all that I have, I don't know. Almost feeling bored with it all, and that's not good, cause I love my paper, stamps, and ink!

Anyway, that's why I haven't posted much lately, in case you were wondering. Thanks for visiting.
