Mixed Media Texture

Sharing a mixed media piece I made the other day. I started off with a piece of cardboard from a cracker box as my base. A couple coats of gesso and orange acrylic paint for the background was my start. I wanted some texture, so I looked through my crafty drawers, and grabbed this vase filler that I used for Christmas ornaments a couple years ago. It was perfect. I mixed it with lots of gesso, and just brushed it on. After drying, I added more orange paint and some shimmer with my Nuvo mousse.

Since this is a good size piece, I used the Donna Downey flower from the Unity kit You Are Important. This is a large stamp, bigger than the palm of my hand. I stamped it on the base twice with Walnut Stain Oxide ink. I didn't think it had enough color, so I stamped it again with white pigment ink. That made it show up a little better. I sponged on some more oxide ink colors, and spitzed with water to give a little more to the background. Then I stamped the flower on orange cardstock twice, and cut some petals, and the center out to have some dimension.

I glued them all down, then decided to add some black thread loops on the one side. I stamped the sentiment from the kit, and used the splats from the large flower over top of it, then glued it down. I also put some glossy accent dots to the flower center, it needed something. I am happy with the way this turned out, and now I want to experiment what else I can use for texture!

Sparkly Shoes



Playing with my new YNS stamps and paper. I'm following along with their challenge #60 using the sketch;

The YNS stamp set I used is called Sports Fanatics Shoeper Awesome, and I stamped and mirror stamped the cute shoe several times. I colored in the stars with various dye ink markers, then gave them all a couple coats of clear Wink of Stella for some sparkle. I used a small piece of patterned paper from the YNS Just For Fun pad. I used the small star from the stamp set and stamped it onto the card base, then assembled it together. The sentiment was inked with black Versafine, then clear embossed, and added foam dimensionals to the back. Here is a closer look at those sparkly shoes!

I also added some YNS enamel gumdrops to the sentiment banner, and sponged around it before adhering. And just for fun, here are my actual sparkly shoes!

Not covered in glitter, but sequins!!! Now only if they had smiley faces!!!!

Canvas Art

 

I got the idea for this layout from something I saw on Pinterest. I thought the daisy flowers were really cute. Mine were made by cutting designer paper from Stampin' Up! into somewhat of a triangle shape, then outlining them all with a black marker. The centers were stamped first, then punched and the leaves were punched as well.

That part was done first, then I started the canvas. This is an 8x10, and I painted it in a light blue, then went over it with some distress oxide ink. Did some random stamping with the same inks, and Unity stamps. Added a little more color with a darker blue paint, more sponging of ink until I was happy with it.

I put the flowers down where I wanted them to be, then painted on the stems, outlined them, then glued the flowers down. I decided on putting various ribbons at the bottom, the original had more paper pieces. I have many printed ribbons that never get used, so thought this would look cute.

Haven't decided to put any quotes on this yet, I can always add some later. I think it's fun and whimsical, and will be cute hanging in my room.

Silver Embossing

There is so much inspiration at the Unity Show and Tell Facebook Group. We all share our Unity stamp projects, and are inspired by each other. I saw someone else post a card made with this Feb kit of the month image, and she embossed it in silver. I thought it was so pretty, so I had to try it myself.

It is stamped with Versamark and embossed in silver. The first one I made, I grabbed my gray powder on accident. It's pretty too, but I'll use it on something else. I love all the detail of this image that the embossing brings out. I colored some of the parts with my Stampin' Up! markers, then fussy cut it out. There is a smaller image in this kit too, and you can just see a little of it at the bottom of the card base. I wasn't sure of the layout for this card at first, but after adding the papers from C.C. Designs, the other image is mostly covered.

I added a little paper clip, and didn't put on a sentiment yet. I think I will wait and put one on later, depending on what occasion I decide to use this card for.

Marker Comparison Video

I was going to share some cards I made today, but yesterday I made this video. Wasn't planned, but after coloring with my markers, I just had to share. I have found that the right paper makes all the difference, and am so happy to have found it! So here is the video I made, it mostly appeals to the beginner colorist.

Bristol Paper



Had a play yesterday using my new Bristol cardstock, and the Tombow brush markers. I used this same image from the other day since she was still out. The marker set I got is called Portrait, and it's flesh tones with  browns and a black. I still need to practice getting the skin colored and blended correctly with these markers. This Bristol smooth cardstock does work nicely though. I'm not impressed with the blender pen that came with this set, the nib has already rounded out, so I used my Stampin' Up! ones, works just as well.

The floral frame is a new stamp from the March kit of the month from Unity. It's colored with my Letraset Promarkers onto Stampin' Up!'s Whisper White cardstock. It holds up well with alcohol markers. To cut the oval center out, I used my trusty Creative Memories custom cutting system. It has an oval almost the same size, and my dies did not. I fussy cut the outside border out, which took a little longer than usual, my hands had the shakes yesterday.

I don't have this attached to anything yet, may put it in one of my journals. I'm not overly happy with it, but I'll use it anyway. I did make two other projects yesterday, but no photos yet. It's off to work today, but off again tomorrow! :)

New Markers

I ordered some new markers, and was anxious to try them out as soon as they got here. :) I am wanting to do more artistic looks to my stamped images, and expand my techniques. This first photo is colored with my new Tombow Dual Brush markers. They are dye ink based. The paper is Distress watercolor. I watched a video that said this paper has a coating on it, and makes the ink flow around better than some others. I didn't use a water brush, but a blender pen. I've never had much luck with the blender, but I gave it a go anyway. The Tombow markers were easy to blend and shade, but the paper did start to pill in some places. My guess is from the blender pen. This is also stamped on the smooth side of the paper.

Next up, same image, same paper, but stamped on the rough side, and used Distress markers and the blender pen. Not near as easy to blend, and the paper pilled as well. Will have to try the water brush and see how that works next.

I do also have some new paper to try out, it's the Bristol Smooth card stock. Another video showed it being used with markers as well. So tomorrow I will have time to try out some other techniques. Until then, I'm happy with these, and how they look, just thought I'd share.

Smiley Happy Bunny

My latest addition to my Your Next Stamp collection, is the Smiley Happy Critter Crew Set 3. I've used the cute bunny and it's matching sentiment on this, following the colors for the YNS Challenge 59:

I started off with a panel of watercolor paper and sponged on Distress Oxide inks in Broken China and Faded Jeans. I spritzed and dried until I was happy with it. The bunny on the other hand, went through 3 different mediums before I decided on this one. I inked and clear embossed it, then used Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide on it. I like how it turned out.

I die cut 2 YNS grass borders, and an oval for the egg. I dry fit it together to see how it would look, and thought the egg was much too plain. First I sponged the blue ink around it, still too plain. So, I sat there thinking of what I could do to dress it up. Add glitter of course! I used some micro fine glitter from Elizabeth Crafts, along with their double sided adhesive sheets. Now I have a sugar egg!! Love how it looks, but I did go around the outside with an alcohol marker.

The sentiment was cut into a banner, and was clear embossed with Vintage Photo DO ink. I also added a white YNS gumdrop to it. Very cute, perfect for Easter, or any occasion really.

Tasty Trucks Box

This is one of the free stamp sets I got from my latest Stampin' Up! order during the Sale-A-Bration promotion. It's called Tasty Trucks, and there are different sentiments, foods and such that you can stamp inside the truck window. The brochure shows a cute box made with this, so of course I had to make one!

I mirror stamped the truck to get two images, and colored them with my Spectrum markers. I added some Glossy Accents to the windows and lights. I fussy cut them out, and made my own box by measuring the size of the truck. I put some enamel dots on the tires and glued them to my box.

This is pretty small, my box measures 2" wide by 1" deep. So cute though, and perfect for some candy inside!!

Spring Flowers Page

Another page in my cookbook journal inspired by the Think Spring challenge at Double D

I started this with the floral panel. It is a Unity Stamp by artist Donna Downey. I colored it with Distress Oxide inks, then played around with how much oxidizing I wanted. The main panel was painted with a wash of acrylics, a few blades of grass painted on, and clouds stamped in paint from Stampin Up.

The sentiment reads: 'Any man that walks the mead, in bud, or blade, or bloom, may find a meaning suited to his mind'. This is a stamp I have had for many years from My Sentiments Exactly.

So many more options for this theme, I am ready for the beauty of Spring.
